In brief: Mohawk look will aid Crosswalk
Gretchen’s Hair Studio, 1711 N. Hamilton St., will present a “Mohawkathon” Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. to benefit Crosswalk, the Volunteers of America shelter for teens.
Stylists will give participants a temporary mohawk without cutting or shaving any hair. They can also add temporary color.
There is a suggested donation of $5, or you can get a mohawk cut for $10. For more information, call at 482-0419.

Motorcycle ride to fight cancer
The seventh annual Ride for Life is scheduled Saturday. Organizers anticipate their largest turnout of Spokane and North Idaho motorcyclists as they ride to Priest Lake. Proceeds from the event will benefit the area’s cancer foundations.
Tickets are $20 per person and includes lunch, T-shirt and ride pin. Tickets can be purchased at several area businesses. Sign-in begins at 9 a.m. and riders will take off from eight different locations throughout the Inland Northwest at 10 a.m., gathering in Spirit Lake for a group ride to Priest Lake.

Bank will honor activists
Intermountain Community Bank is now accepting nominations for its annual Community Star Program. Every year, the Community Star Program honors one person who is active in the community. The winner of the award gets to choose a nonprofit organization of their choice to receive $1,000.
This year, two awards will be given out; one for the downtown branch and one for the Spokane Valley branch.
To nominate a deserving individual, fill out a nomination form along with a brief paragraph about your nominee. All nominations should be delivered to either branch of the Intermountain Community Bank by Aug. 15.
Nomination forms may be picked up at either of the bank branches. The downtown branch is at 801 W. Riverside Ave., and the Spokane Valley branch is located at 200 N. Mullan Road.

Fred Meyer gives food bank trailer
The Fred Meyer Foundation has recently funded a semitrailer for the Second Harvest Food Bank. The vehicle will be used to move donated food throughout Spokane and the Inland Northwest.
