Smart RVing is way to go
It’s time to dust off those RVs that have been sitting in the driveway. Kick those tires, rev up the engines, let’s hit the open road and go RVing.
OK, wait a minute, what about the all-time high gasoline prices? We need to weigh the pros and cons of the situation and consider a trade off. RVing isn’t just a motor home, it also includes the pop up camper, travel trailer, fifth wheel, SUVs or even a tent.
There are many ways to enjoy the freedom of seeing the sights and enjoying the wide open spaces. Surely, you must concur that such options can reduce what would be a staggering expense at the gas pump.
For instance check those tires regularly because it can help economize road travel. Minimize the weight of your RV by checking the gas tank, water holding tank and supply cabinets because excess weight can hinder gas mileage.
The microwave, a wonderful invention, means fewer utensils. Drive early in the morning or late in the evening when the air is still, eliminating wind resistance to help improve gas mileage.
We started with a tent, then upgraded to a pop up camper, and now we have a motor home. Actually, we just sold our old motor home because we plan to downsize to a smaller one. That is our optional trade off; we want to have the same conveniences as our larger, self-contained motor home, but in a more compact RV that will get better gas mileage.
RVing means sleeping in our own bed, eating our own food, using our own bathroom and traveling at our own pace. Sky rocketing gas prices have presented a challenge of wills. Where there is a will, there is a way. Consider a trade off like driving less and staying longer at your next campground. What’s there not to like sitting next to a pristine lake or in the mountains breathing brisk, clean air?
RVing allows the freedom of flexibility and control of when to travel down the road and where you stop nobody knows … it could be anywhere and that’s the beauty of RVing. Unlike flying or taking a cruise you have the option of bringing anything with you when you go RVing. For us that would be Toto, our so called senior citizen dog. He’s a Cairn terrier like the one in “The Wizard of Oz.”
Point being, we have the option to pack anything without having to experience the indignities of being searched and having some of your belongings confiscated, standing in long lines and lost luggage. Also, RVing is more cost effective when you take into consideration hotel, restaurant and car rental costs. RVing enables us to visit family and friends, visit fairs and festivals. We attend the Deutchesfest every September, since my husband is from Odessa.
Whether you’re retired, have a growing family or are just tired of people and cars every which way you turn, RVing is the answer. You’re able to choose the destination, map out the route and plan as many stops that you choose. You’re at the controls.
You have everything at your finger tips including the kitchen sink. You can bring your Toto too.
