In brief: Fairchild airmen help crash victim

The Spokesman-Review

An Usk, Wash., man was in serious condition Thursday after a Wednesday morning rollover crash on state Route 211 near Highway 2 in Pend Oreille County.

Lonnie E. Stigall, 48, was driving a 1991 Toyota pickup northbound on Route 211 when he failed to negotiate a turn, overcorrected and crashed, according to a Washington State Patrol report.

Two medics from Fairchild Air Force Base, who had been driving to a training event with six other airmen, stopped and took charge of caring for Stigall. He was conscious as Tech. Sgt. John Parish and Staff Sgt. George Gonzalez helped extricate him from the upside-down pickup, an Air Force news release states.

The six other airmen also helped. The eight are from the Fairchild’s Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape School, according to the release.

Stigall was airlifted to Sacred Heart Medical Center, the WSP report states.

Court disbars attorney for lies

Spokane Valley attorney Dale Leonard Raugust was disbarred this week by the state Supreme Court for lying to a Washington State Bar Association investigator.

Raugust agreed to the disbarment, which calls for him to pay the bar association $750 to cover its investigative costs before he can apply for reinstatement.

The action is rooted in the complaint of a client who hired Raugust in January 2004 to prepare a response to a divorce petition. The client said the document wasn’t filed on time because Raugust failed to tell him he needed to sign it.

According to bar documents, Raugust showed an investigator a letter in which he claimed to have instructed the client to come to his office and sign the divorce response. Raugust also showed the investigator a section of his office handbook describing a procedure by which his receptionist was supposed to call clients who needed to sign documents.

Raugust admitted, however, that he belatedly made up the letter and handbook passage to deceive the bar association.

YMCA thief caught on camera

A man suspected of stealing credit cards from a Spokane Valley YMCA locker was caught on camera and is now being sought by police.

The man went into the YMCA at 2421 N. Discovery Place at about 11 a.m. Sunday, cut the lock off a locker, stole two credit cards and then went on a buying spree at Best Buy and Circuit City, according to a Spokane Valley police news release.

Anyone with information about the man in the picture is asked to call (509) 242-TIPS.

Reward offered for bank robber

Authorities are still looking for a man who tried to rob a Spokane Valley credit union and then robbed a Coeur d’Alene bank last week.

Secret Witness of Kootenai County is offering a cash reward for information leading to the robber’s capture.

On July 11, an unidentified man first attempted to rob the Progressions Credit Union on Pines Road and Mission Avenue. Thirty-five minutes later he robbed the U.S. Bank at 1603 N. Fourth St.

The robber is described as a heavy-set man with reddish hair.

Witnesses near the Spokane Valley robbery said the suspect may have been driving a 1990s white, Caravan-style van with lettering in the rear window reading either “Idaho environmentalists” or “Idaho wholesaling.”

Anyone who can identify the suspect or has information about his whereabouts is asked to call (208) 667-2111.
