Area roundup: Indians rained out
Friday’s Northwest League baseball game between the Spokane Indians (12-18) and Vancouver Canadians (15-15) in Vancouver, British Columbia, was rained out.
The game will be made up today as part of a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. Both games will be seven innings instead of nine. There will be a 30-minute break after the first contest.
“Dale Reneau surrendered two first-inning runs – one earned – before settling down and leading the front-running Moses Lake Pirates (21-8) to a 5-2 victory over the Spokane RiverHawks (9-20) in West Coast Collegiate Baseball League play at Avista Stadium.
Women’s basketball
Former University High School star Angie Bjorklund came off the bench to tally seven points, three steals and two assists in 21 minutes of play to help the USA U-19 team beat Brazil 90-75 in an exhibition game in Santa Cruz de la Palma, Canary Islands.
Maya Moore led the Americans with 15 points, while Jantel Lavender added 13 points and seven rebounds.
Team USA will play Spain today before heading to Bratislava, Slovakia, for the FIBA U-19 World Championship on Thursday.
Men’s basketball
Patrick Beverley scored 20 points to lead the USA U-19 team to a 112-86 victory over Argentina at the U-19 World Championship in Novi Sad, Serbia.
Gonzaga University sophomore Matt Bouldin hit a 3-pointer and grabbed a rebound in three minutes of play for the Americans.
Team USA (7-0) will face France (5-2) for the second time in the tournament in today’s semifinal game. Serbia (6-1) will square off against Brazil (4-3) in the other game for the right to play for the gold medal on Sunday.
