Driver, fugitive from Idaho arrested

The Spokesman-Review

An unlawful turn led to the arrest of an 18-year-old Spokane County man on a felony drug charge Tuesday night, said Spokane County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan.

Deputy Andrew Stockman was in the area of Trent Avenue and Argonne Road about 9:45 p.m. when he spotted the driver of a car make an improper turn into the parking lot of a grocery store. He stopped the vehicle and identified its driver as Larry Wayne Talley, 8412 E. Lacrosse Ave.

The deputy determined that the driver’s license was suspended and arrested him for the traffic misdemeanor. He also determined that Talley had an outstanding felony arrest warrant issued in Kootenai County for failing to appear on a dangerous drug charge. Stockman arrested Talley for being a fugitive from justice.

In a subsequent search of the car, the deputy discovered a plastic sack on the floor. The sack contained 71 pills determined to be Ecstasy. Next to the sack of pills was a wad of currency that totaled $838.

Talley was booked on the felony fugitive charge and a felony count of possession of Ecstasy with intent to deliver. A misdemeanor count of third degree driving while license suspended is pending.

Copper stolen from BNSF facility

Another Spokane Valley business fell victim to metal thieves overnight Monday when a suspect broke into a BNSF Railway storage facility and made off with hundreds of dollars worth of copper wire, said Spokane Valley Police spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan.

A railroad employee arrived at the storage yard at 3505 N. Flora Road about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday and discovered a pair of padlocks cut from the drive-through gate. He found two spools of copper wire missing and a substantial amount of wire cut and removed from a third spool.

He told Officer Sarah Stevens that he was last man out on Monday and he closed and locked the gate about 3:40 p.m. He was unable to provide names of any potential suspects.

Anyone with information regarding this or any other copper theft is encouraged to call the Spokane Valley Police at 242-TIPS.

Burglary suspect arrested

Officers investigating a possible apartment burglary Tuesday evening ended up making a felony drug arrest when a man inside the residence jumped from a back window and attempted to run away.

Officers Jeff Shover and Darell Stidham went to an apartment at 227 S. Adams Road after a neighbor called and said they had seen two men enter the apartment of a man who had been arrested by Spokane Police earlier in the day and was still in jail.

The officers knocked on the door and could hear movement inside. Another resident alerted them to someone jumping from a back window. Shover ran after the suspect and caught him when he fell.

The officers handcuffed 24-year-old Henry Patrick Bevans, a transient. During a subsequent search, they found in his clothing a clear sandwich bag containing meth, a second sandwich bag containing meth residue, a third bag containing a cutting agent for methamphetamine, a plastic case containing digital drug scales and $160 in cash.

The suspect also carried two cellular phones.

They contacted the apartment resident at the jail who told them he did not wish to press criminal charges against Bevans. Shover drove the suspect to the Spokane County Jail and booked him for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

Meth found during arrest

A 25-year-old Spokane Valley man was arrested late Monday after methamphetamine was discovered in his clothing during a stop for a pedestrian violation, said Spokane County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan.

Kasey R. Hendrickson, 12824 E. Sanson Ave., was walking in the dark with his back to traffic along Highway 2 at Flint Road when he was spotted by Deputy Damon Anderberg shortly before midnight.

The deputy stopped Hendrickson who was acting nervously and wearing very bulky clothing making it difficult for Anderberg to determine if he might be carrying a weapon.

During a consensual pat-down search, Anderberg removed a pocket knife from Hendrickson’s pants and a broken glass drug pipe that was rolled up in the pedestrian’s shirtsleeve.

The drug pipe contained a small quantity of methamphetamine and the deputy arrested Hendrickson. Outside the jail, Hendrickson told the deputy that he had additional meth inside his shoe. Anderberg removed the shoe and found a small baggie containing more of the drug.
