Yankees 7-17, Devil Rays 3-5: At New York, Shelley Duncan’s first major league homer capped the Yankees’ five-run sixth inning, and Hideki Matsui also connected to lead New York past Tampa Bay in the first game of a day-night doubleheader. Alex Rodriguez homered and drove in four runs for the Yankees to take the second game over the Devil Rays and complete the sweep.

Red Sox 11, White Sox 2: At Boston, Kason Gabbard allowed two hits in seven innings and Coco Crisp drove in five runs as the Red Sox routed Chicago. Gabbard struck out one, walked one and recorded 15 of his 21 outs on grounders.

Twins 5, Angels 2: At Minneapolis, Joe Mauer hit a three-run, inside-the-park homer in the eighth inning to lift Minnesota to a victory over Los Angeles. Torii Hunter and Jason Bartlett also homered for the Twins.

Tigers 10, Royals 8 (10): At Detroit, Brandon Inge’s two-run homer in the bottom of the 10th inning gave the Tigers a win over Kansas City. Craig Monroe drove in four runs, including a three-run homer. Justin Verlander gave up five runs and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings for Detroit.

Rangers 8, Indians 5: At Arlington, Texas, Marlon Byrd keyed a five-run first inning with a two-run double and matched his career high with five RBIs to lead the Rangers over Cleveland. Byrd’s three-run triple in the seventh stretched a one-run lead to 8-4.

Athletics 4, Orioles 3: At Oakland, Calif., Dan Haren gave up two early runs before retiring 17 of the next 20 batters he faced, helping the Athletics beat Baltimore.
