In brief: Hundreds turn out for bike show
Hundreds of motorcyclists and motorcycle enthusiasts showed up for the second Annual North Idaho Budweiser Motorcycle Show and Sale in Rathdrum last weekend.
“We were tickled,” said show organizer Kevin Randles. “It was very successful. It was definitely bigger than last year.”
Judges chose Harley Davidson Ultra Classic Electra Glides as the winners of both the shiniest and the ugliest categories. A Flathead V-8 trike was awarded the oldest bike title, and a BMW was chosen as the most unique.
Trina Delany of Hayden won the Screamin’ Eagle Harley Davidson Motorcycle jacket raffle and the highest bidders for a 1930s silver coin donated by The Silver Guy of Rathdrum were Julie and Bryce Grecian of One Eye’s. All proceeds from the event went to OASIS, a group dedicated to protecting women and children from domestic violence.
Herb gardening class offered
Learn to spice up your life with Barbara Arnold, owner of Nothing But Herbs. Her plants are sold at an area farmer’s market.
Arnold will teach folks the secrets of herb gardening and cooking with spices at a short class that begins at 6:30 p.m. July 31 at Westwood Gardens, Rathdrum. The fee is $10 and includes refreshments and a potted herb.
“Barbara is a local expert and her knowledge is practical and useful,” said Jodee Fyfe of Westwood Gardens.

$1 million donated to fundraiser
Thanks to nearly $140,000 in recent donations, the Kootenai County Boys and Girls Club has reached the $1 million mark in its quest to raise $2.9 million for a proposed new building in Post Falls, according to Cort Wilcox, club board member.
To further the fundraising efforts, he said, Eve Knudtsen recently volunteered to serve as director of the club’s capital campaign, Wilcox said. She is dealer and president of Knudtsen Chevrolet Co. in Post Falls.
Recent gifts and pledges include $29,000 from two Coeur d’Alene and a Post Falls Kiwanis clubs; $20,000 from Dr. David Barnes; $20,000 from John Butler at Century 21; $10,000 from Avista; $10,000 of in-kind building materials from 84 Lumber and $50,000 in asphalt paving work from Poe Asphalt, Wilcox said.
Wilcox hopes construction on the building can begin in August 2008.
