Fire destroys trailer home

From Staff Reports The Spokesman-Review

A husband and wife lost their home near Chewelah when it went up in flames Thursday, destroying the double-wide and charring two nearby trees.

Stevens County Fire District 4 and the Chewelah Fire Department responded when the woman called 911 at about 9:30 a.m., after attempting to extinguish the fire with a lawn sprinkler, said Derrick Proszek, the incident commander with District 4.

By the time firefighters arrived, the house was engulfed. It took about an hour to knock down the blaze, Proszek said.

Nobody was injured, and no pets were inside the home, he said. The husband was at work.

No cause was known late Friday, though investigators were on the scene.

Proszek said the fire appeared to have started in a back bedroom or living room.
