In brief: Indecent exposure hearing upcoming
The sales manager of a recently re-opened soda chain faces a court hearing next week on a charge of indecent exposure.
David C. Dominick was arrested by Spokane County sheriff’s deputies for the misdemeanor on Nov. 2, 2006. He works at the Pop Shoppe at 1002 S. Perry St.
Dominick, 58, pleaded not guilty to the charge at a late November hearing in Spokane County District Court, according to court documents.
Neither county prosecutors nor Dominick’s attorney would provide details of the incident, which allegedly occurred at Dominick’s home at 5316 S. Madelia St., according to court documents.
A Sheriff’s Office incident report was unavailable immediately because the county takes 90 days to respond to public requests for such documents.
Dominick’s neighbors alerted The Spokesman-Review to the charges after reading in Wednesday’s paper about the return of the soda chain, which had gone out of business in 1983.
Dominick refused to comment on the specifics of the case.
Protest photos, videos sought
Detectives from the Spokane Police Department are requesting photos or videos from any citizens who documented the July 4 protest at Riverfront Park.
Investigators hope that additional photographs of the anti-police demonstration – during which 17 people were arrested – will help them gain information about the cases, Officer Jennifer DeRuwe said.
“There were so many people down there, and we’d rather have it now than later,” she said.
Authorities have already reviewed some citizen-provided documentation, DeRuwe said.
Among those charged after the protest was 18-year-old Zachary St. John, who pleaded not guilty Monday to third-degree assault of a police officer.
Anyone with information, photos or video of the demonstration is asked to call the SPD tip line at (509) 242-TIPS.
Police looking for escaped felon
Spokane police are looking for a convicted felon who has escaped from community custody.

The Spokane Gang Enforcement Team is heading up the search for Maravilla.
Maravilla, who is 6-foot-1 and about 200 pounds, is a 29-year-old Hispanic with many tattoos on his chest, neck and arms.
He was last seen in northeast Spokane.
Anyone with information about Maravilla is asked to call (509) 625-GANG.
Pullman
Guardsman writes about Iraq duty
A Washington National Guardsman from Pullman has written a book offering a view into his one-year deployment to Iraq.
Capt. Timothy A. Tate, a reservist who has served in the military for 21 years, decided to publish in book form the e-mails and photos he sent to family and friends during his time in Baghdad.
“It gives a window into what it’s like to be on deployment for a year,” Tate said.
Tate served with the 122nd Mobile Public Affairs Detachment Unit that accompanied the 1st Cavalry Division during Operation Iraqi Freedom II from 2004 to 2005.
During his deployment, Tate said, his duties included verifying the information about deaths of American soldiers and escorting the media throughout Baghdad.
His e-mails vary from banter between him and his family, to some of the grim aspects of war and the day-to-day life of a soldier.
The book is available online at www.emailsfrom baghdad.com.

The 60-day ban took effect July 13.
Route 27 crash injures two
A head-on crash involving a cargo truck and a station wagon spilled 30 to 50 gallons of diesel fuel on state Route 27 near Rockford on Thursday, according to a Washington State Patrol report.
Spokane resident Danny D. Green II, 38, was driving an Isuzu cargo truck southbound on the highway shortly before 10 a.m. when he swerved to avoid an oncoming Subaru Legacy driving in the wrong lane.
The truck crashed into a ditch and the Subaru, driven by Tekoa resident Laverna L. Beach, 79, came to rest on top of the truck, according to the report.
Trooper Nicholas Hopper said it appeared both drivers attempted to avoid the crash.
Diesel fuel spilled from the truck and a tank onboard. The WSP report said no waterways were contaminated, and the fuel posed no hazard to the environment.
Green was airlifted to Deaconess Medical Center, where he was in fair condition late Thursday, a nurse supervisor said. Beach was taken there by ambulance and was in serious condition.
The WSP is investigating the crash.
