Man arrested after evading police

The Spokesman-Review

A brief chase led to the arrest Monday of Michael Butler, 44, who barricaded himself in an acquaintance’s house in the 1300 block of West Dalton Avenue.

Spokane police reported that the chase began when an officer spotted Butler – who was wanted on warrants for robbery, possession of stolen property and several misdemeanors – driving near Maple Street and Shannon Avenue. Butler ditched his car and took off on foot to the Dalton residence, police reported.

He locked out the homeowner and her 3-year-old child, who were pulling shrubs in the garden, a witness said. Neighbors said Butler had been there before.

Authorities sent in a police dog and found Butler hiding in the attic. He was taken into custody and treated at Deaconess Medical Center for minor dog bite wounds.

A police spokesman said Butler would be booked into Spokane County Jail on a felony charge of eluding a police officer as well as for his two felony warrants and two misdemeanor warrants.
