Donovan leaves Gators for Magic
After leading Florida to two national titles, Billy Donovan has agreed to leave the Gators to coach the Orlando Magic, the NBA team confirmed Thursday. Donovan agreed to a five-year deal paying $5.5 million annually, an NBA official said.
“Billy Donovan is a winner,” general manager Otis Smith said in a statement. “We feel he is the right person to develop and maximize the talents of our players.”
Donovan, who turned down an offer in April to coach Kentucky, replaces Brian Hill, who was fired after two consecutive losing seasons.
Donovan didn’t return phone messages left by The AP.

Brett will play for Trojans
Beau Brett, a junior three-sport athlete at Ferris High School, has made an oral commitment to play baseball at the University of Southern California.
His father Bobby said that Beau had offers from Pepperdine and the University of Washington.
After impressing during a hitting camp at USC, the lure of warm weather and a chance to play in the Pac-10 at a once-storied program swayed his decision.
Beau starts in football and is a member of the Saxons’ state championship basketball team. The 6-foot-3 first baseman and two-time All-GSL player batted .433 this year, led the league with nine home runs, added seven doubles and was second in runs batted in with 38.
