It’s Woman’s World: Chase away those summertime blues
For many of us, childhood summers consisted of carefree fun, vacations and a reprieve from schoolwork. Today’s working women realize that careers don’t take summers off, and the change in seasons doesn’t always change our schedules.
As summer approaches, let’s take a look at some ways for working women to make the most of the season while avoiding the summertime blues.
First, plan a trip. The best way to improve your summer outlook is to have some fun of your own. Even if you can escape the office for just a long weekend, a quick getaway will let you in on that summer fun that everyone else seems to be having. A relaxing weekend away from the stresses of work could be just the rejuvenation you need.
If you can’t take a vacation, look on the bright side. Instead of traveling during the height of vacation season and paying the year’s highest rates, you can plan a trip during a non-peak time. Vacationing during the off season will leave you with more money in your pocket, which could allow you to extend your stay, and you’ll avoid the crowds that accompany this time of year.
Fortunately, summer offers even the busiest working woman a few days off to relax and have fun. The Fourth of July and Labor Day weekend are great opportunities to visit with friends or plan a family get-together.
Also, enjoy the warmer weather that the season brings. Research shows that time spent in the sun can improve your mood, and it also increases your vitamin D intake, which improves bone health. Just don’t forget to wear sunscreen for protection from the summer sun’s powerful rays.
By seeking out opportunities to enjoy the season, even a working woman can have some summer fun.
