Bayview News: Motel, mobile home park on the market
Following the sale of one of Boileau’s docks to neighboring JD’s Marina, Waterford Park Homes, LLC, announced recently that both the Scenic Motel and the View of the Bay Mobile Home and RV Park are for sale.
Eviction notices were given to residents of the mobile home park last fall, but the issue remains up in the air.
Waterford Park, of course, is the same company – owned by developer Bob Holland – that’s been given what some Bayview residents consider an inadequate fine of $2,500 for destroying critical kokanee salmon spawning beds. More penalties are possible.
Waterford also broke an underwater sewer line and built a retaining wall without a permit.
And Holland’s plans for a marina expansion have been rejected by the Idaho Department of Lands.
It’s enough to make one wonder whether the for sale signs are an attempt to recap investment in the face of those difficulties.
Quiet Memorial Day
Some days just start out badly and get worse. For me, Memorial Day was such an experience.
My thinking was: “Aha! Our lead story for this issue of Bayview News is going to be the Memorial Day ceremony at the Bayview Community Center, starring American Legion Post 149, the American flag and, of course, the reason for the whole thing, our war dead.”
Alas, it wasn’t to be.
As I ventured forth with camera in hand expecting a 10:30 a.m. ceremony in the rain, the community center was notably quiet. The published time was 10:30, but the Legion had already come and gone. It was there at 9.
Rock ‘n’ roll weekend
Entertainment this weekend features the No Jugs Band at the Captain’s Wheel on Friday and Saturday nights.
The band consists of George Bruner on lead guitar and vocals, Rick Steiner on keyboard and vocals and Steve Cripe on drums. Bruner is one of the most-talented guitar pickers around, with 38 years’ experience. Steiner, owner of Sandpoint Music, is another veteran, having played keyboard for 45 years. Cripe, a retired railroad conductor, holds it all together.
The Button Hook, now open Thursdays through Sundays, will feature karaoke on Friday, with G&G Karaoke. The following Friday, George and Jeanne Bruner will play the Hook.
Elsewhere, JD’s is barbecuing rib-eye steaks on weekends, with chef Tammy performing at the outside grill.
The new owners of the Bayview Merc are hard at it with fully stocked shelves for the first time in a while.
Hot weather was here, and will come again soon. Ralph’s is selling a bunch of ice cream. Summer finally has come to Bayview.
Athol name changing?
Not too far around the corner is the annual Bayview Daze celebration on July 6, 7 and 8.
A typical small-town parade will kick things off at 11 a.m. Saturday with your correspondent as master of ceremonies. The parade will include a drill team, antique and classic cars and floats.
This will be the 23rd and last year that the two parade gurus, Liz Justus and Lorraine Landwehr, will organize the event. They are retiring in favor of new blood.
After the parade, visit the street fair, where booths will feature an amazing assortment of crafts.
We all are waiting anxiously for the Athol T-shirt display because a rumor has been floating around that Athol is going to change its name.
The alleged new name? Uranus.
