Deer Park: Class became close in good, hard times
Growing up in a small community, and going to the same school for most of my life, I have realized a few things. In Deer Park, everyone is your friend, no matter what. As a class, we’ve been through so much. We’ve learned together, laughed together, cried together and had some great times. We’ve lost friends, and together, learned how to move on.
We’ll never forget the teachers that have made such an impact on our lives. The Frosts never fail to make us laugh. Mr. Anderson made us study more, question more, and learn more than we ever thought possible, even if we were a bit vague at times.
We’ll never forget doing “the wave” for the new kid in English, then watching Mrs. Demke do the “happy dance,” or the days spent playing Spades with Mr. Otteson when our minds couldn’t hold any more equations, rules, or formulas.
High school has been amazing, but this is not the end of our lives, it is only the beginning of a new chapter. Our lives in the real world start when we step off of school grounds for the final time. This is when we must prove to ourselves that we really can do what we have been aspiring to do for our whole lives. Some of us will go to college, others, to trade school, and yet others, to the military to serve our great nation.
But no matter where we go, or what we do with our lives, let us always remember the old adage of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow which states, “Heights, by great men, reached and kept were not obtained by sudden flight. But they while their companions slept, were toiling upwards in the night.”
May we always remember what we have learned and always strive to do our best. I know that each of us will achieve greatness in some form if only we will take necessary action.
