Gonzaga Prep: G-Prep community makes it all worth it

Elizabeth Elder Gonzaga Preparatory School

As the year begins to wind down, the sharp reality that I will soon be graduating and going to college becomes more and more present in my mind.

The fact that I am going to have to leave the people who have been my friends and family at Gonzaga Prep for the last four years is bittersweet. Gonzaga Prep has prepared me well for college, and I am ready to move on to new endeavors, but the last four years of my life have been great. I have certainly been challenged, even exhausted at times, but I honestly would not ask for any more or any less.

With a Jesuit education, you receive so much more than knowledge. I have learned so much, but I have also been blessed to meet many wonderful, caring people, be involved in numerous clubs and sports, and become a person I am proud to be.

My teachers have taught me to both excel in the classroom and in the world as a “person for others,” the familiar Jesuit saying. My favorite part of Gonzaga Prep, though, has been the community. Everything that is done at Gonzaga Prep is done as a spirited, loving, and talented community. Nerve-racking and gut-wrenching football games, Thanksgiving food drives, lessons and carols, retreats, spirit week, and weekly Masses, among other things, will always grace my memory. Thank you to all the faculty, staff, students, alumni, benefactors and people behind the scenes for providing a community like Gonzaga Prep for my classmates and me.

I would also like to thank my family. Thank you for putting up with the long nights, the early mornings, the tennis matches, the volleyball games, fundraisers and other school events. You have never failed to be there for me, support me, challenge me and provide for me throughout my life. I love you all.
