In brief: Big Wheel race results
More than 200 supporters last weekend cheered 80 kids who pedaled in the Post Falls Days annual McDonald’s Big Wheel Race.
Children who placed first, second and third received a trophy donated by Awards, Etc., cash prizes from Potlatch No. 1 Credit Union, and a McDonald’s T-shirt. Every participant also received a ribbon and a McDonald’s Happy Meal.
The winners included:
“3-year-olds: Payton Balch, first place; Jaxson Anderson, second place; Carson Fitzgerald, third place.
“4-year-olds: Blasé Rinkavage, first; Nathaniel Hughes, second; Mae Dawson, third.
“5-year-olds: Khloe Hammond, first; Hannah Snow, second; Zachary Sedgwick, third.
“6-year-olds: Roger Rinkavage, first; Kevin Maret, second; Alex Campbell, third.
“7-year-olds: Allan Ballew, first; Natalie Key, Falls, second; Dayton Hammond, third.
All are Post Falls residents, except Khloe and Dayton Hammond, who are from Mead.

Basketball camps planned
The North Idaho College men’s basketball staff is encouraging boys to use summer break to improve their basketball skills.
The Cardinal Summer Boys Basketball Camp June 18-21 is open to all school-age boys. Participants will receive instruction from NIC men’s basketball coaches and players, including fundamental basketball skills and individual drills that players can practice on their own.
The camp will be from 9 a.m. to noon for boys through fifth grade and from 1 to 4 p.m. daily for boys in sixth grade and older, in NIC’s Christianson Gym.
Cost is $95 and the registration fee includes a t-shirt and basketball.
Participants can also sign up for one-on-one sessions with NIC men’s basketball staff. The sessions will be held daily from 5 to 7 p.m. Cost for the one-on-one sessions is an additional $80.

NIC offers kayak clinic
Kayakers of all ability levels are encouraged to take part in a four-part sea kayak clinic offered by North Idaho College’s Outdoor Pursuits.
The clinic will be from 6 to 9 p.m. June 21 and 28 and July 12 and 19, on the NIC beach.
The clinic is designed as an introduction to sea and lake kayaking, covering paddle strokes, self-rescue techniques and hands-on experience with a variety of boats. Those who complete the clinic will have the basic skills required to operate a kayak. Participants will also explore scenic, secluded areas of Lake Coeur d’Alene.
Cost is $90 and includes instruction as well as the use of boats, equipment and facilities. Space is limited. For more information, call 769-5941.
Button Show at Best Western
The 32nd Annual Idaho State Button Show will be June 21 through 23 at Best Western Inn Coeur d’Alene, 506 W. Appleway.
Members of the National Button Society and other state organizations are welcome to attend.
