Lakeside High School: Seniors shine in and out of classroom
With warmer weather come thoughts of summer and graduation. It is a time of expectation and excitement, a time to look back on the last four years and realize how much we’ve been through and how much we’ve accomplished.
It’s hard to believe that four years ago, we were nervous freshmen, eager to learn more about ourselves and how we fit into the big scheme of things. Now, with graduation on the horizon, high school is already becoming a memory. The Class of 2007 is one of the most dynamic classes to have passed through Lakeside High School. Not only have we excelled in the classroom, but we were also top competitors in athletics and active members in the community.
It’s not often that AP or college prep classes are filled to max capacity every semester, but at Lakeside, this is normal. This year’s seniors especially, have shown their academic prowess. It seems extraordinary that a graduating class of just over 100 would have three valedictorians. All three of them are active in sports, clubs, or hold jobs outside of school. While our school district has always been academically strong, it’s outstanding to have this number of high-achieving students. As a result of our academic determination, classes have become much more interesting and interactive. As a whole, we seniors achieved one of the best class GPAs in school history.
On the sports field, Lakeside is one of the best in the state. Throughout our four years as Eagles, our class boasts league championships, state playoffs, and even a few state championships. Over half our graduating seniors have been involved with at least one sport, and many are multiple sport athletes. This level of involvement and desire to excel is a hallmark of our class.
Outside of school, we have an impressive résumé. Seven of our young male graduates have earned their Eagle Scout awards; many have after school jobs; almost all of us have done some sort of community service projects; two have already gone through basic training for the military; one has a pilot’s license, four are going into ROTC next year; and two are culinary geniuses. It’s safe to say that dedication and determination is a common theme that has enabled us to excel.
As graduation approaches, and the Class of 2007 says farewell, we look forward to a promising future. Soon we will be crossing the stage and receiving our diplomas; a moment which will mark the culmination of all we have accomplished. Hopefully, we will be remembered as a group of young men and women who gave back and made our school and community a better place. As we move toward the future, we will use the skills and experiences we’ve learned in the last four years to pursue our dreams and accomplish our goals.
