Padres 5, Dodgers 2: At San Diego, Greg Maddux earned his 338th career victory and Trevor Hoffman pitched a scoreless ninth inning to notch his 500th career save as the Padres topped Los Angeles to remain on top of the West.

Cardinals 6, Reds 4: At St. Louis, Albert Pujols’ two-run homer snapped a seventh-inning tie and helped the surging Cardinals beat Cincinnati. St. Louis has won six of seven and pulled within five games of first-place Milwaukee in the Central.

Phillies 4, Mets 2: At New York, Jimmy Rollins hit a go-ahead, three-run home run in the seventh inning and Philadelphia rallied to beat the Mets. Carlos Beltran homered for the Mets, who lost their season-high third straight.

Nationals 6, Pirates 5: At Washington, Cristian Guzman scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch by Salomon Torres and the Nationals edged Pittsburgh.

Cubs 6, Brewers 2: At Milwaukee, Carlos Zambrano controlled his temper and his pitches and Chicago overcame Prince Fielder’s 21st home run to beat the Brewers.

Marlins 7, Braves 4: At Atlanta, Aaron Boone hit a two-run home run and Florida held off the Braves to take three of four games in the series.

Rockies 8, Astros 7: At Denver, Brad Hawpe had a two-run tiebreaking triple in the seventh inning to lead Colorado past Houston.

Diamondbacks 1, Giants 0: At Phoenix, Chris Young broke a scoreless tie with a home run leading off the seventh inning and Arizona edged San Francisco.
