Religion notebook: Churches offer kids many activities
School is almost out, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything for kids to do.
Summer is vacation Bible school season and churches are already announcing plans to offer kids a variety of Bible-based fun and educational acctivities.
“Opportunity Presbyterian Church will host a VBS session called “Avalanche Ranch” for kids in preschool through the fifth grade from June 25-29. Classes will be held daily from 9 a.m. to noon. There will be Horseplay Games, Chuck Wagon Chow, Cowpoke Crafts and Showtime Roundup. The children also will make teddy bears to send to children in Africa.
The cost is $10 per child with a maximum of $30 per family. Call the church office at 924-9750 for more information or to register. The church is at 202 N. Pines Road.
“The Veradale United Church of Christ will host a VBS session June 25-29 along with Opportunity Christian Church and Westminster Congregational United Church of Christ. The theme is “Build A Better World: Water.” It is open to children age 4 through the sixth grade. Classes will be held from 9 a.m. to noon each day.
There will be games, crafts, stories and snacks. Call the church at 926-7173 for more information or to register. The church is at 611 N. Progress Road.
“Three churches will each host a portion of a VBS session June 25-29. The Tri-Parish VBS includes Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection. The theme is “Serengeti Trek.”
Children in grades K-2 will meet each day from 9 to 11:45 a.m. at Good Shepherd, 810 S. Sullivan Road. Children in grades 3-5 will meet daily from 9 a.m. to noon at St. Mary’s, 304 S. Adams Road. The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, 15319 E. Eighth, will host a special VBS barbecue at 6 p.m. June 28. Children should register in advance.

Concert
The gospel group Blackwood Legacy will perform in concert at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Pasadena Park Church of the Nazarene, 8822 E. Upriver Drive. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.
