Three boys arrested in break-ins
Authorities arrested three young burglars involved in two office break-ins Saturday night.
Spokane Valley Police officers arrested a 14-year-old boy after tracking him from Centennial Middle School, where a knife and other small items were stolen from a school administrative office, said spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan, of the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
Two other boys were arrested after allegedly running away from their quarters at the Morning Star Boys’ Ranch southeast of Spokane and breaking into the camp’s administrative building. A 14-year-old and a 12-year-old were arrested after they returned to the camp, Reagan said.
They stole candy from the office and drove a tractor a short distance through a field, according to a police news release.
Stormwater project will be explained
A public meeting is scheduled Wednesday where officials will present the final design of a stormwater management project for the Glenrose Prairie watershed.
Spokane County officials will hear comments and answer questions about their proposed Browne Mountain Regional Stormwater Facility at 6:30 p.m. at the Moran Prairie library, 6004 S. Regal St.
Project engineer Colleen Little said the project involves construction of two ponds just north of the intersection of 46th Avenue and Chronicle Lane, at the site of an abandoned Spokane municipal sewage lagoon. She said the site will incorporate recreational uses, including benches and paths for hikers and cyclists.
Construction is to begin this fall and be completed next spring.

Masked man robs Skipper’s
A masked robber hit a Skipper’s restaurant Friday night, running away with a small amount of cash and evading police.
The man entered the store at 7115 N. Division St. and ordered the two employees, who were preparing to close, into the back office. With his hand in his sweat shirt pocket as though he had a pistol, the robber ordered the employees to open a safe and he ran off with the cash at about 11:20 p.m., according to a Spokane County Sheriff’s Office news release.
The employees locked themselves in the office and called police, spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan said.
“They were absolutely scared to death,” he said.
Deputies arrived and attempted to track the robber with a K-9 unit, but the dog lost the scent outside the Skipper’s. The robber was still at large Monday.
Stevens County
Charge reduced for writer of threats
A Stevens County high school student who wrote death threats in a notebook will pay a $75 fine, continue with counseling and issue a public apology, authorities said Monday.
Responding to community support for Lance Q. Timmering, Stevens County Prosecutor Tim Rasmussen downgraded a felony death-threat harassment charge, and the 17-year-old pleaded guilty to the lesser offense of disorderly conduct.
Timmering was expelled after teachers found a notebook titled “Assassination” in which he wrote about killing 20 to 30 people. He maintained that the threats were a joke and part of an Internet game.
The high school junior was arrested May 3 and spent four days in custody, Rasmussen said. Superintendent Patsy Guglielmino said she will use the summer to decide whether to let the teen re-enroll at the school. She said the incident scared many residents but didn’t worry many of the high school’s 75 students.
“I’m confident that he’s going to do all right,” Rasmussen said of the teen, who had no prior criminal record. “He made a mistake – not a bad person, but he made a mistake.”
Coeur d’Alene
Man accused of kidnapping wife
A Coeur d’Alene man is being held on $250,000 bond on kidnapping and domestic battery charges for allegedly handcuffing his wife and holding her against her will.
Levi M. Wills, 23, told sheriff’s deputies he and his wife got in an argument at home, and he “freaked and made some wrong moves,” according to a Kootenai County sheriff’s report.
Wills allegedly placed her in handcuffs Sunday evening, grabbed a gun and stuck it in his back pocket, then dragged her to the car.
Deputies stopped the car on the west side of Lake Coeur d’Alene about 9 p.m. after calls to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department.
A driver called police about 8:15 p.m. to report seeing a woman handcuffed in a vehicle driving on Kidd Island Bay Road near Tall Pines Road. The driver tried to follow the vehicle but lost it near Loffs Bay Road.
A second person called 911 to report that a friend had called to say she was being held against her will.
