Welcome Home!
One of the first things people learn to appreciate about the Northwest – and what is often a draw for newcomers – is the climate.
Crisp fall days bring picture-perfect autumn holidays framed by a canopy of gold and crimson leaves. Who can resist a pretty leaf when it falls at your feet?
Snowy winter months bring out the child in all of us. Last year, on my way to work, I watched a woman who looked old enough to be my grandmother scoop up a handful of powder and throw a perfect snowball at a delighted little boy. She made my day.
Spring is brief but beautiful. And summer, well that’s when we shine. Long hot days and cool nights make life at this time of year pleasant and relaxing. To anyone who has lived in a less temperate part of the country, simple pleasures like dining on the patio, drinks in the garden and sleeping with the windows open are rare and wonderful.
Morning comes early during the summer. It’s hard to resist the urge to get up with the birds and put your bare feet on the dewy grass.
Any why should we?
That’s exactly why so many of us are here.
This week in Home
It’s gardening season in Spokane. To celebrate the hard work and bounty of area gardeners, the annual Inland Empire Gardeners’ Spokane in Bloom tour will be held this weekend. Our garden columnist, Pat Munts, gives Home readers an advance peek into some of the gardens participating in the tour.
Live it Up!
For those who are interested in the urban lifestyle movement, this weekend brings another kind of tour. Live it Up!, the second annual tour of downtown Spokane lofts and urban dwellings and a celebration of the urban lifestyle, will be held Saturday and Sunday.
Urban Style columnist Amy Klamper profiles a local builder who is bringing a new attitude to one of the oldest neighborhoods in Spokane.
It’s Father’s Day weekend. Why not give Dad a break. Give him a day off and take him on either of the tours happening around town.
Then, top it all by serving up a little ice cream on the patio and savoring a long twilight in the beautiful Northwest.
Enjoy.
