‘Contender’ returns to CdA Casino
Jesse’s back.
The last time Northwest boxing fans saw Jesse Brinkley, he was knocking out Cleveland Corder for the second time at the Coeur d’Alene Casino in March 2004.
Since then, the Nevada middleweight went off to the world of reality television, hanging out with Sylvester Stallone, Jackie Kallen and Sugar Ray Leonard on The Contender.
Brinkley brings his 26-5 professional record back to the House of Fury to take on Pasco’s Louis Lopez (13-5) in the main event of a six-fight card tonight. Doors open at 6, with the first bout to begin at 7.
Including the final two bouts on The Contender, where he lost decisions to Sergio Mora and Alfonso Gomez to finish fourth, Brinkley has posted just one victory in his last five fights – scoring a unanimous decision over Anthony Bonsante in Los Angeles in a rematch.
In his last two outings, Brinkley lost on a TKO to Joe Spina at Foxwoods Casino in Mashantucket, Conn., and dropped a unanimous decision to Robin Reid in Newcastle, England.
In a co-main event, Sandpoint welterweight Favio Medina (13-1-2) takes on Troy Wilson (8-5-1) in a scheduled 10-round bout. Medina has won his past dozen outings, including a knockout over Jose Felix in March.
Newman Lake heavyweight Skyler Anderson takes on Shawn Kocab in a six-round heavyweight bout. In his last bout, Anderson received a controversial draw with Chris Green at the Coeur d’Alene Casino. Anderson’s corner felt their fighter had clearly won the fight on points – a point of view supported by the vast majority of those in attendance. However, two of the three judges ringside scored the six-round fight even, making it a majority draw.
Spokane’s Ty Hume makes his second professional start in search of his first victory when he takes on Billy Carnes of Miles City, Mont., who makes his pro debut.
Boise’s Angie Dauenhauer goes after her second straight win to start her pro career when she takes on Jana Simms.
