Area roundup: Kelowna slips past RiverHawks

News and Wire Services The Spokesman-Review

It was a case of too much Tyler Johnson for the Spokane RiverHawks on Friday night at the Patterson Complex on the campus of Gonzaga University.

Johnson doubled home two runs in the top of the fifth inning to knot the score and singled home what proved to be the winning run in the seventh as the Kelowna Falcons (1-1) rallied for a 5-4 victory in West Coast Collegiate League play.

Nick Masters allowed one run in 4 1/3 innings of relief, but was tagged with the loss for Spokane (1-1). Starter Luke Farden lasted 4 2/3 innings. He allowed four runs on seven hits.

RiverHawks shortstop Greg Biagi, batting ninth, went 3 for 3 with a pair of RBIs.

Jason McEndoo is staying on as Montana State’s offensive line coach, Rob Ash, the team’s new head coach, announced.

McEndoo has crafted some of the best offensive lines in recent school history, and handled in-state recruiting for the Bobcats the past four years.

“First and foremost, Jason is an outstanding person,” Ash said.

“He is the type of person I want to build a coaching staff with. Beyond that, he is proven as a terrific recruiter, and once I sat down and began discussing football with him it became obvious that he’s a very solid coach.”

McEndoo has coached two All-Americans and five first team All-Big Sky Conference selections at Montana State. His 2006 unit allowed the fewest sacks in the league.

McEndoo was an All-Pac 10 offensive lineman at Washington State and earned Sporting News Honorable Mention All-America honors his senior year.

He played in NFL Europe and for the Seattle Seahawks and New Orleans Saints, coaching in the Washington state prep ranks before joining Montana State’s staff.
