Kayak clinic planned
Kayakers of all ability levels are encouraged to take part in a four-part sea kayak clinic offered by North Idaho College’s Outdoor Pursuits.
The clinic will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays, through July 19, meeting on the NIC beach.
The clinic is designed as an introduction to sea and lake kayaking, covering paddle strokes, self-rescue techniques and hands-on experience with a variety of boats. Those who complete the clinic will have the basic skills required to operate a kayak. Participants will also explore scenic, secluded areas of Lake Coeur d’Alene.
Cost is $90 and includes instruction as well as the use of boats, equipment and facilities. Space is limited.

Learn to rock climb
Climbers of all ability levels are encouraged to take part in a four-part rock climbing clinic offered by North Idaho College’s Outdoor Pursuits.
The clinic will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays through July 17. Participants will meet for the first session in the Outdoor Pursuits Office on the lower level of NIC’s Edminster Student Union Building. All subsequent sessions will be held at Q’emiln Riverside Park in Post Falls.
The clinic is designed as an introduction to rock climbing and will include safety training, knot tying, belaying, climbing techniques and anchoring.
Cost is $100 and includes all gear. Space is limited.

Square dance festival
Square dancers are invited to kick up their heels next weekend alongside dancers from all over the Northwest and Canada. They’ll be gathering at the 43rd Idaho Square Round Dance Festival Thursday through next Saturday at Coeur d’Alene High School.
Registration opens at noon Thursday with a dance at 7:30 p.m. The following day, participants can attend workshops and dances.
Next Saturday a special teen dance will feature young caller Adam Christman from Montana and teen cuer Justine Brown from Rathdrum. They’ll be dancing from 1 to 3:30 p.m.
Festivities culminate with the biggest dance of the weekend, starting at 8 p.m. next Saturday. Featured caller Jim Hattrick from Vancouver, Wash., will be joined by cuer John Downing from Newport, Wash.

Time for Hayden Days
Hayden Days will take place Friday through June 24. Hours are Friday from 5 to 9 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Finucane Park on the corner of Fourth Street and Prairie Avenue. Classic Car Show on Friday and Saturday; parade Saturday at 11 a.m. beginning at Hayden Meadows Elementary School; festivities June 24 includes a Coeur d’Alene Symphony Orchestra performance at 6 p.m. at Honeysuckle Beach.
