Washington Beef recalls meat

Associated Press The Spokesman-Review

TOPPENISH, Wash. – More than 80,000 pounds of beef, most never distributed to consumers, have been voluntarily recalled as a precaution by Washington Beef LLC, the company said Friday.

The 82,286 pounds of beef, produced on June 11, were distributed to wholesalers, processors and retail institutions in Washington, Oregon, California, and Idaho.

Testing showed no product contamination and there have been no reports of illness, but the beef has been recalled because it may have been exposed to water that contained coliform bacteria, Washington Beef said.

The state Health Department notified Washington Beef on June 12 that a water test had confirmed coliform bacteria in the plant’s water system. Washington Beef immediately suspended operations, the company said.

Customers should return recalled products.
