Passers-by save woman

Staff Reports The Spokesman-Review

Two passers-by saved a woman who was attempting to jump off the Monroe Street Bridge on Friday night, police said.

A woman stopped her car on Monroe Street at about 9:15 p.m., put the vehicle in park and began to climb over the side of the bridge to jump, Officer Tracie Meidl said in a press release.

Jonah Payne, 21, saw the woman and grabbed her, pulling her off the bridge wall, Meidl said.

Guadalupe Dominguez, 44, stopped to help him. They waited with her for police to arrive. Meidl said their actions prevented the woman from ending her life.

The woman was transported to a local hospital for a mental evaluation. Neither she nor her rescuers were injured, Meidl said.

Sgt. Steven Wohl commended Payne and Dominguez for their efforts to rescue the woman.
