In brief: Faulty wiring cause of barn fire
Faulty wiring at the back of a barn caused a June 13 fire that ruined the structure and its contents in rural Post Falls, said Larry Boatwright, fire marshal with the Kootenai County Fire and Rescue Department.
Twenty-five firefighters and 10 vehicles from KCFR as well as Hauser and North Lakes fire departments fought the early evening blaze at 8429 N. Chase Road. Boatwright said preliminary damage estimates total at least $170,000 and could increase depending on the value of tools, equipment and heirlooms lost in the fire.
Anthony and Marilyn Desjarlais own the barn, which also housed a candle-making shop.
Meth lab ended, officials say
The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department said it shut down a methamphetamine lab in a Post Falls rental house on June 11.
“We were able to locate all the components, the chemicals and the glassware necessary to produce ounce-size quantities of methamphetamine,” said Brad Maskell, a sergeant in the department.
A tip led officers to the lab at 8997 Patrick Lane. The Idaho State Police is assisting with the investigation, which is ongoing.
“We haven’t made any arrests yet but we expect charges will be forthcoming,” Maskell said.
