In brief: Youth commission takes applications
The Chase Youth Commission is taking student applications from kids age 13 to 18.
Students can live in the city of Spokane, small towns or cities or unincorporated areas of Spokane County.
The term will last from July 1 through June 30, 2008.
The commission is also taking applications for adult members. Those vacancies are open only to residents of the city of Spokane.
The deadline to apply is June 30 at 5 p.m.

Swimsuit drive to help kids
The Spokane Parks Foundation will hold a swimsuit drive for kids in need.
Public pools require swimmers to wear proper swimming suits. Many kids show up ready to swim but aren’t allowed to join in without a suit.
The foundation will accept new swimsuits at the foundation office, 315 W. Mission Ave., or one of the following centers: East Central Community Center, 500 S. Stone; Northeast Community Center, 4001 N. Cook; or the West Central Community Center, 1603 N. Belt.
Monetary donations can be mailed to the Spokane Parks Foundation, P.O. Box 2021, Spokane, WA 99210.

Swimming pool meeting Thursday
A third in a series of community meetings to gather public comment on the future of Spokane swimming pools and aquatics is scheduled for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Northeast Community Center, 4001 N. Cook St.
The session will concentrate on what the public would like to see in future aquatic facilities, including renovations of existing pools and possible construction of a water park facility.
The city is considering competitive swimming, recreation, wellness and lessons.
Camp holds swim lessons
American Red Cross Swim Lessons at Camp Dart-Lo teaches swimmers to be safe, have fun and build skills.
Eight one-week sessions are available for beginner to advanced skill levels for youths and adults.
Registrations are due one week before session starts. June 25-Aug. 23, 5-5:30 p.m. or 5:30-6 p.m. depending on level.
