Summer Bible schools coming up

Vacation Bible school sessions are still cropping up on church calendars in the Valley. The sessions combine games, crafts, Bible stories and all-around fun for kids.

Valley Bible Church will host its VBS session titled “Making a Splash with Jesus” July 9 through 13. The event will take place in Terrace View Park, at the corner of 24th Avenue and Blake Road, and children are advised to bring a swim suit and towel and be prepared to get a little wet. The camp will be from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. daily. Registration will be held in the morning before camp begins.

The cost is $10 per child, which includes lunch and a T-shirt. Call the church at 928-5161 for more information.

Zion Lutheran Church will host its VBS session for ages 4 through sixth grade July 9 through 13. The group will meet daily for crafts, games, Bible stories, music and puppetry. Classes will be held each day from 9 to 11:45 a.m. The suggested donation is $15 per child or $30 per family, which includes a t-shirt.

A pastor’s farewell

The Rev. Norm and Debbie Thomas will celebrate their last day at Valley Assembly of God Church on Sunday. Rev. Thomas will speak during the 9:15 and 10:45 a.m. and 6 p.m. services Sunday. A fellowship time will follow the evening service with refreshments served.

Thomas has been the church’s senior associate pastor since 2000. During his tenure the church built a new classroom building and expanded the worship center.

Lawn movies

Zion Lutheran Church will host occasional movies shown on the church lawn this summer. The first will be 6 p.m. Wednesday. Those attending the free movie are invited to bring a lawn chair or a blanket. The scheduled movie is “Cars.” The festivities will move indoors if it rains. The church is at 8304 E. Buckeye Ave.
