Valley Fire – Commissioners accepted the retirement of Battalion Chief Dave Umthun, who had 24 years of service. The chiefs have done engine company evaluations; the results should be presented to the commissioners within the next month. An audit for 2004-06 has begun and is expected to last two to three weeks. An interlocal fire inspection agreement has been sent to Spokane Valley, Millwood, Liberty Lake and Spokane County for approval. (Source: PIO Bill Clifford)

Fairfield City Council – Council members heard a report on the skate park, which is now open. They also discussed a potential high speed internet provider for town residents and are seeking bids to repair the community center roof and to other improvements. Council members approved participation in the annual swim program that buses children in local towns to the Tekoa Pool. The truck that does the town’s road oiling was recently totaled; the spraying will resume in a couple weeks. A regional meeting to discuss yard waste disposal options is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Fairfield Community Center. (Source: Town clerk Shelly wood)

Rockford City Council – Council members moved the next scheduled meeting to Thursday because of the July 4 holiday. Council members approved declaring a fire truck surplus and also approve participation in the annual swim program that buses children in local towns to the Tekoa pool. (Source: Town clerk)
