Mitchell, reportedly a CIA contractor involved in interrogation of detainees in the war on terror, advocated rough treatment of suspects based on previous experiments that used electric shocks on dogs to induce “learned helplessness.” But it is not known whether Mitchell personally ordered electric shocks for any detainees, New Yorker reporter Jane Mayer said on Friday, following publication of a Spokesman-Review article.
