Week in review
Fire District 13 (Newman Lake) – A new flag pole is up at Station 1. Twelve new signs have been put up to mark the boundaries of the district and a new Smokey Bear fire condition sign has been installed on Starr Road. (Source: Secretary Gwyneth Cadwell)
Fire District 8 – Commissioners opened bids for extrication equipment, fire shelters and thermal imaging cameras. Staff was instructed to accept the lowest bids unless the bids didn’t meet specifications. A labor agreement was finalized with Local 3711. The district has started a mentoring program for volunteer officers. Visitors from the Ponderosa neighborhood spoke about ingress and egress issues and commissioners offered their support. University SCOPE – Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich attended the meeting. Volunteers discussed plans for their upcoming fundraiser at the Sprague rest stop. (Source: Co-secretary Alice Domrese)
West Valley SCOPE – Volunteers discussed the recent carnival. They voted to redo the bathroom in the SCOPE office and discussed possible charitable donations. A decision on which charities to donate to will be made at a later date. (Source: President June King)
Rockford City Council – There was a public hearing on rezoning a parcel from residential to commercial to allow the owner to build storage buildings. Council members granted the rezone. A public hearing will be held during the July 18 meeting on the town’s six-year transportation plan. The city is looking for a new city attorney. Council members also discussed ongoing dog issues.
