In brief: Prom dress exchange planned
The parents of the Freeman High School senior class are sponsoring a Prom Dress Extravaganza next Saturday, to encourage teens to save money by recycling prom dresses.
The high school prom business has exploded into a $2.7 billion industry. In 2006, Seventeen magazine found that the average girl spends about $800 on the night, including $223 for a dress.
Area high school students are invited to buy or sell their prom dresses at the price they set. Sellers keep the entire sales amount for their dress, with a seller’s entrance fee of $10 for one dress or $25 for three dresses. Admission for nonsellers is $5. Entrance fees benefit the Freeman High School senior all-nighter.
Sellers will check in their dress/dresses from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the high school, 14626 Jackson Road, Valleyford. Dresses need to be clean and secured on a hanger at check-in.
The dress sale will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and students may pickup their money and/or remaining dresses after the sale. Dresses left after 8 will be donated to charity.
