State B Boys: Day 3 recap
Mossyrock 57, Napavine 46
For the first time, there will be a boys state trophy with Mossyrock’s name on it.
The Vikings (18-10) rallied, outscoring Napavine 26-12 in the final quarter, to eliminate the Tigers (17-11) and earn a spot in today’s fifth-eighth place game with Willapa Valley.
Brad Allen tied the game at 34-all early in the fourth quarter when he netted a 3-pointer from the top of the arc. Tivon Bigbee followed up with a 3-pointer and Mossyrock took its first and final lead of the game.
Napavine chipped back, closing the gap to 42-40 when Blake Anthony drew a foul underneath and went 2 for 2 from the line.
But Mossyrock secured the win from the line, where the Vikings were 21 of 24.
Jeremy Harper led Mossyrock with 14 points. Bigbee added 13 and Allen finished with 11.
Kellen Ashmore scored a team-high 11 points for Napavine.

Willapa Valley built a 41-20 lead and hung on for the loser-out win despite a 20-point quarter by the Lightning.
Brady Langer scored 20 points for Vikings (17-9) with four 3-pointers and five assists alongside teammate Josh Mayfield who scored 12 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the line.
Willapa shot 70 percent from the line as a team on 17-of-24 shooting, but La Salle made 3 of 8 free throws on 14 Willapa team fouls.
Taylor Cliett and Nick Kennedy paced La Salle (14-12) with nine points apiece.

Riverside Chr. 63, St. George’s 60
Mark it down as the game Matthew Allan won’t forget.
His Riverside Christian squad led 45-29 after three quarters and appeared to be on its way to an easy win in a loser-out game.
But then St. George’s guard Henry Butler took over.
Butler scored 16 points in the fourth quarter to cut Riverside’s lead to 59-58 with 57 seconds to go. He fouled out on the next play and finished with 19 points.
Then, after Riverside made a free throw, Dragons junior Brennan Yetter tied the game at 60 with 33 seconds left. On the ensuing possession, Chris Pynch held the ball for a final Crusaders shot.
Pynch looked to drive with 10 seconds left, but instead found Allan open on the wing. Allan released a 3-pointer with a man in his face that rattled in with no time left for a 63-60 win for Riverside (18-4).
Miles Deife scored 18 points for St. George’s (21-9) including 3 of 3 from 3-point range in the fourth quarter.

Toutle Lake 57, Liberty Bell 35
Junior guard Brandon Bartlett scored a game-high 18 points as Toutle Lake eliminated Liberty Bell.
The Ducks (20-6) played solid, scrappy defense all game, causing turnovers that would lead to uncontested layups at the other end.
The Ducks reserves played a big role outscoring Liberty Bell’s bench 24-5.
Junior Connor Walsh paced Liberty Bell (17-9) with 10 points and junior Louis Donnet added eight points and a game-high six rebounds.

Wahkiakum 60, Republic 47
Senior Toby David had game-highs of 20 points and 10 rebounds as the Mules topped the Tigers in front of a large crowd in the first of two semifinal games.
With Republic leading 15-13 in the second quarter, Wahkiakum went on a 14-0 run, capped by Toby David’s 3-pointer which gave the Mules a 27-15 advantage.
Senior Ty Briscoe tossed in 13 points and senior Travis Bain added 10 points and eight assists for Wahkiakum, which led 28-17 at the half.
Senior Derek Gianukakis did his best to rally the Tigers (27-3) in the second half. Gianukakis nailed a 3-pointer on Republic’s first possession to bring the Tigers within 28-20.
The Mules (25-1) didn’t let Republic any closer.
Senior Todd Orestad tallied a team-high 20 points and Gianukakis added 15 points and eight boards for last year’s State B runner-up.

Northwest Chr. 48, Darrington 39
Last year’s State B champion, Northwest Christian, earned a return trip to the championship game after beating Darrington in a semifinal matchup.
Sophomore guard Chase Ramey scored a game-high 14 points and sophomore Matt Zandbergen added 12 points and eight rebounds to lead the Crusaders, who grabbed 21 offensive rebounds.
Free-throw shooting proved to be a big difference. The Crusaders converted on 17 of 24 from the line while the Loggers (15-9) were just 8 of 15, including 3 for 10 in the second half.
The Loggers showed signs of life in the second half, getting to within three after sophomore Mike Parris made a free throw in the middle of the fourth quarter, but that was as close as the Loggers got.
Senior Derek Iranon added 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting for Northwest Christian (28-1), which made just 4 of 21 shots in the second half but converted on 13 of 21 free throws.
