It takes a lot of courage to take a family out of one place and plant them in another.

For Bryan and Yvonne Watson, who recently moved to Spokane from Las Vegas, it took something else: a strong partnership.

“We wanted to get out of Vegas, and because I’d visited Spokane in the past, I knew it was a good place to raise a family,” Bryan said. “But it had to be what my wife wanted to do, too.”

The couple arrived in Spokane just after last Christmas. Just in time for the grayest part of winter. And with three children in tow, adjusting to a new life in a new place has had its challenges

“There have been times we looked at each other and said,’What did we do?’ ” Bryan said, “But we still think this is the place for us.”

Why Spokane

“We moved to Spokane to leave the hustle and bustle of Las Vegas,” Yvonne said. “We have family in the Tri-cities area but fell in love with Spokane and its friendly people.”

“It was the four seasons that sold us,” Bryan said. “We’re looking forward to that.”

Real estate

“We currently live in a beautiful Craftsman style home on the South Hill and love the neighborhoods and the schools,” Yvonne said. “However we are entertaining the idea of buying land and building a home.”

Settling in

“When we first arrived in December, we loved the snow, but the cold weather and gray days are quite a contrast from the hot desert of Nevada,” Yvonne said.

The Watsons say they are adjusting well to all the changes.

“We hope to get involved in the community and meet our neighbors,” Yvonne said “My daughter Molly and son Bryan want to enroll in the Children’s Theatre for acting classes this month, and my oldest daughter, Jessica, is currently looking for a new job.”

A place in the community

“Right now, we are having fun exploring the city and trying out new restaurants and things to do,” Yvonne said. “Both Bryan and I would like to volunteer in some way to get involved with our new community and meet new people.”

“We want to feel at home here,” Bryan said.
