Yes, moms and dads do listen to podcasts. MommyCast is probably one of the 10 most profitable podcasts on the planet. Virginia moms Paige Heniger and Gretchen Vogelzang began MommyCast — a show about the joys and travails of motherhood — in March 2005.
This popular, very successful podcast seems to have spawned numerous competitors who want a piece of the action: among them are Mom’s Home Chat; Mommy POD; Pediacast: A Pediatric Podcast for Parents; and Real Time Moms.
MommyCast’s amazing success includes being among the most-viewed podcast Web sites and being heavily underwritten by the Dixie Paper Co. The two hosts have become Web celebrities, appearing frequently in the media whenever reporters want to point out the success of podcasting in reaching a mainstream audience.
At this point, the podcast is strictly audio. Podcast producers, however, are savvy enough to throw in quality pop music interludes. The podcast segments, roughly 30 minutes each, move smoothly over a number of topics, such as health exams, dental care, sibling rivalry, and anything relevant found in the news.
Production quality: Very high.
Overall mood: Friendly coffee-table conversation.
Host personality: Socially engaged middle-class American values from start to finish.
