Roundup: Cowen will join Chiefs
Jared Cowen, the first overall selection in the 2006 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft, will join the Spokane Chiefs for the remainder of the regular season and playoffs, the team announced Tuesday.
Cowen, 15, has appeared in three regular-season games for Spokane this season.
Baseball
Gonzaga scored three runs in the top of the tenth inning and edged Utah (4-13) 13-12 in a non-conference game in Salt Lake City.
Darin Holcomb paced the Bulldogs (11-10) with four hits, one run and one RBI.
“Jayson Miller and Garrett Kimbrel combined on a four-hit shutout and Zach Borba added three hits as Washington State (10-6) blanked visiting Rider 11-0 in non-conference play. Rider is 2-7.
“Cole Janini hit a three-run home run in the fifth, giving Community Colleges of Spokane (4-6) an 11-5 win over Miles City in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader. In the second game, Miles City scored 13 runs in the final three innings and crushed CCS 14-2.
Football
The first-year Tri-Cities Fever of arenafootball2 will host the Spokane Shock in a scrimmage at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Toyota Center in Kennewick.
