Mounted search group wants more members
The Spokane County Sheriff Mounted Search and Rescue wants to expand its membership.
Mounted Search and Rescue is a group of volunteers dedicated to providing search and rescue services to the citizens of Spokane County. Members welcome the opportunity to ride their horses while helping the community.
The group meets the second Thursday of each month at the Busy Bee Equestrian Center in Airway Heights. Members conduct training rides on weekends from April to October.
Members provide their own horse, tack and search equipment and must have access to a rig and trailer to haul their horse or horses. Since searches may occur at any time of day or night, searchers must be available to respond on short notice.
Horses should be quiet, steady and able to work calmly around distractions such as all-terrain vehicles, dogs, bicycles and crowds.
Persons interested in joining the Mounted Search and Rescue or simply obtaining more information about the program may contact a member by e-mail at phoebed@yahoo.com or colleencihak@msn.com.
