8 to watch: Russell Carter

Football or basketball, it makes little difference. Notre Dame can flex its considerable recruiting muscle in both sports, and diminutive university William & Mary wasn’t about to impede Irish coach Mike Brey’s pursuit of Russell Carter.

A 6-foot-4 shooting guard, Carter has flourished in his senior year and was tabbed a first-team All-Big East selection. He leads the Irish in points per game (17.2) and is second on the team in 3-pointers made (84) and steals (51).

“He’s a high-energy guy,” Brey said. “He can put numbers on the board quick. There’s a toughness about him that … gives us a motor that really helps. And he and I have had some great arguments. It has just been awesome. … He’s good because he’s hard-headed.”
