Grant will aid Free Restaurant

The Spokesman-Review

The Women’s and Children’s Free Restaurant, 1620 N. Monroe St., has received a $12,000 grant from Women Helping Others Foundation, a nonprofit organization in Dallas.

The grant request was written by Christine Alexanian, a second-year Master of Social Work student at Eastern Washington University.

The funds will be used to purchase commercial kitchen equipment. The grant originally sought $6,397, but Women Helping Others felt the need was great enough to offer additional funding.

According to Alexanian, this is the first time the Women’s and Children’s Free Restaurant has received a grant from an out-of-state organization.

The facility provides approximately 3,000 hot, nutritious meals a month to impoverished women and children in the Spokane area.
