Employment

City parks will hire part-timers for summer

The Spokane Valley Parks and Recreation Department is hiring people for its recreation programs this summer.

Part-time, temporary counselor positions are available for several programs offered to children of various ages. The city also is hiring parks ambassadors to help with events and take care of the parks.

Those interested in applying may find more information on the “employment” page of the city Web site, www.spokanevalley.org. Applications are available online and may be returned to City Hall at 11707 E. Sprague Ave., Suite 106, or faxed to 688-0295.

Youth Soccer League sign-up under way

The Valley Youth Soccer League is offering a special deal this spring for new players.

In an effort to increase the number of kids in the program, first-time players ages 10 to 13 pay $20 for the season. Others pay $40 or $45.

Practice is once or twice a week. Games start April 7 and take places on Saturdays. Most are held at Trent Elementary.

Fairfield council discusses grant for skate park

Fairfield City Council – Council members discussed a capital parks project grant the town applied for to fund the skate park.

They voted to install a light for the flag pole at the Post Office and to grade Latah’s roads for a fee.

They also discussed the dog ordinance and designing a Web site for the town. (Source: Town Clerk Shelly Wood)

Rockford City Council – Council members approved an agreement with the town’s engineers to work on a master water plan update.

They discussed having a town cleanup in April and will bring in a large Dumpster for disposal of trash.

They voted to place a continuation of the current fire levy on May’s ballot. There also was a long discussion on the proposed Rockford Estates development. (Source: Town Clerk)

West Valley SCOPE – Volunteers are planning a Spring Green Clean event on April 28. Volunteers will pick up old paint, pesticides and other hazardous substances at local residences as well as staff a drop-off point for waste at the fire station.

They also have organized a shred-a-thon on April 28 and will have a truck in the Sterling Savings parking lot on Argonne Road for people to bring their papers for disposal.
