Boys soccer

Evan McCain’s hat trick powered Pullman to a 7-0 win Saturday over host Colville in the Great Northern League.

Derek Hein added two goals and David Sharrat had a goal and two assists for the Greyhounds (4-1, 4-1), who outshot the Indians (2-5, 2-4) 16-4.

Elsewhere in the GNL, Ben Groce had a hat trick, leading Medical Lake to a 7-0 win over host Chewelah (1-5, 0-4). Daniel Melvin also scored twice for the Cardinals (3-3, 1-3).

Softball

Pullman (4-1, 2-0) scored five runs in the sixth and edged host Cheney (3-4, 0-2) 10-9 in the first game of a Great Northern League doubleheader. The Greyhounds won the second game 7-2.

“Lewiston scored seven runs in the first inning and cruised to an 11-1 victory over visiting Sandpoint (0-3, 0-3) in the first game of an Inland Empire League doubleheader. Amanda Hoffman’s two-run triple in the sixth inning ended the game on the 10-run mercy rule. In the second game, the Bengals (5-0, 3-0) coasted to a 14-4 win in five innings. Stephanie Ferguson’s RBI triple in the fifth ended the game.

“Timberlake’s doubleheader at Rathdrum against host Lakeland was postponed because of weather conditions. No makeup date has been set.

Track and field

The East Side combination of the Central Valley and Freeman boys topped West Side’s Snohomish and Seattle Academy at the Cross-State Invitational at CV High School. Jayson Taylor led the host Bears with first-pace finishes in the 1,600-meter run (4 minutes, 35.98 seconds) and the 3,200 (9:58.1). Chris Davis led Freeman with a second-place finish in the long jump (19 feet, 11 inches) and a third-place finish in the 100 (11.70). On the girls’ side, the West Side edged the East Side by 14 points. Hailey Ficklin led CV with a first-place finish in the high jump (5-2).

“The Cheney boys and girls took first place at the Blackhawk Invite at Cheney High. The Blackhawks boys were led by Jesus Pregoso and Griffon Jones. Pregoso won the 100 (10.9) and 200 (22.6), while Jones won the shot put (47-5) and discus (123-7). The Riverside boys finished second. On the girls’ side, Cheney won all three relay events and cruised to an easy win. The Colville girls finished second, followed by Lake Roosevelt.

“The Lakeside girls and the Ritzville boys took first place at the Frostbite Invitational at University Center. The Eagles were led by Kelli Tikker and Kia Gibson. Tikker took first place in the 200 (28.09), 400 (1:03.67) and high jump (5-0). Gibson finished first in the shot put (34-2), discus (100-6) and the javelin (110-10). For the boys, Ritzville was led by Erik Hille, who placed first in the shot put (44-3).

Baseball

Pullman’s GNL doubleheader at Cheney was rained out. No makeup date has been set.
