Streets getting spring cleanup
Post Falls
The city of Post Falls is taking spring cleaning to the streets this month, with crews washing and sweeping in high-traffic areas.
The city’s annual spring cleanup began last week and is expected to take about three weeks.
Night city crews will wash islands and sidewalks on all bridges and underpasses, Seltice Way and the business district, Spokane Street south of Mullan Street, along Idaho Street between Fourth and 12th avenues, and Mullan from Greensferry Road east to Cecil Road.
Day workers will wash the remaining arterials and collector roads. Street sweepers will run day and night.
The summer sweeping program will begin next week with all residential streets being swept roughly every two weeks.
Name chosen for new park
Two Post Falls students will leave a lasting mark on a new city park.
As part of the mayor’s youth commission, Erin Loe and Brittney Nelson helped select the name for a 7.6-acre park in the Fieldstone subdivision on Syringa Street. The name – Syringa Park – was announced at last week’s City Council meeting.
The name was chosen for the Idaho state flower and the street running by the park.
Syringa Park, scheduled to open this summer, will include a playground, two basketball courts, a sand volleyball court, an amphitheater, a picnic shelter and restrooms.
Will do taxes for food
Residents can donate food or money to the food bank Friday and Saturday and get their taxes prepared for free courtesy of Liberty Tax Services as part of an effort to help the second annual Post Falls Community Spring Food Drive. Here’s how it works:
•Bring nonperishable food donations, such as canned food and cereal, to Liberty Tax Service in the Highway 41 center next to Starbucks on Friday or Saturday.
•The business will prepare for free the income tax returns of new customers who bring in a minimum of 25 items or $25.
•For returning customers, each item or dollar donated to the food bank represents 1 percent off tax-preparation fees, for a total potential savings of 50 percent off.
All donations will go toward the Post Falls Community Spring Food Drive Wednesday in the Wal-Mart parking lot. Call 773-7400 for more information.
