Many events planned for Holy Week
This week is Holy Week, the final week of Lent before Easter. Many Valley churches are planning special services and other events, particularly on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.
“Spokane Valley United Methodist Church will offer a Maundy Thursday service at 7:30 p.m. The church also will host a showing of Mel Gibson’s film “The Passion of the Christ” at 7:30 p.m. on Good Friday. The church is at 115 N. Raymond Road.
“A Maundy Thursday service with optional foot washing will begin at 7 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, 15319 E. Eighth Ave. The church also will have a healing service at 7 p.m. on Friday.
“St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church will have the Stations of the Cross at noon Friday at the church, 304 S. Adams Road.
“A Maundy Thursday service will begin at 7 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 810 S. Sullivan Road.
“A Good Friday service with Communion will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Foothills Community Church, 11102 N. Forker Road.
“Opportunity Christian Church will host a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. at the church, 708 N. Pines Road. The service will be preceded by a light supper at 6:30 p.m.
“Millwood Presbyterian Church will host a Palm Sunday pancake breakfast from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the church at 3223 N. Marguerite Road. The cost is $5 per person; children under 6 will be admitted free. The money raised will be used to send church youth to summer camp.
The church also will host a congregational Seder Meal at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday as well as a Good Friday service at 7 p.m.
“Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2511 S. Pines Road, will have a Good Friday service at 7 p.m.
“Opportunity Presbyterian Church will host a Maundy Thursday Communion service at 7 p.m. Thursday. There will also be a Tenebrae service at 7 p.m. Friday. The church is located at 202 N. Pines Road.
“Zion Lutheran Church is inviting kids in grades K-6 to come by the church Wednesday from 1 to 3 p.m. to learn about Holy Week, play games and have some fun. The church will also host services at 7 p.m. on Maundy Thursday and at 12:10 and 7 p.m. on Good Friday. The church is located at 8304 E. Buckeye Ave.
Women’s Bible study
Living Water Community Church is launching a new Bible study for women Monday at 7 p.m. The eight-week session will be focused on Proverbs 31. There is no charge, but those planning to attend are asked to register by calling the church at 891-1438. The church is located at 15008 E. 16th Ave.
Prayer Basket service
Greenacres Christian Fellowship will host a special candle light service at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Those attending may place prayer requests in a basket. The church is located at 215 N. Barker Road.
