Q: Five people outside the North Branch of the Spokane County Library were asked the following question: In the wake of the recent murders at Virginia Tech, do you think that we need to alter our gun laws?

David Mac: “No. That person was an adult with no criminal record. We can’t mandate a mental illness. I think the laws should stay the same. The question we need to ask is, ‘How are we going to prevent this? How are we going to keep someone from doing this again?’ “

Katie Powell: “No. If they were to allow everyone more access, crazy people would be armed. If we deny access, only crazy people will be armed. It’s a lose-lose situation.”

Sarah Whitfield: “Yes, I would like stricter gun laws. Do I want to stop them altogether? No. But, I do think they (gun laws) need to be revisited.”

Jenna Williams: “I don’t think so. I just graduated from Whitworth, and I don’t think that professors with guns would go over too well on a conservative campus. As much as we try to fix them (laws), people are still going to get them (guns).”

Darryl Bohn: “No. I think they should be looser if anything. Too many gun laws exist now, and they aren’t accomplishing anything.”
