Repaving planned in Browne’s Addition Repaving planned in Browne’s Addition

Bids are being sought this month for two residential street repaving projects under a 2004 citywide bond issue to fix broken pavement, city officials said.

The two projects involve groups of residential streets in northeast Spokane and Browne’s Addition with an estimated combined cost of $1.6 million or more, according to a prepared description of the job from Ann Nolan, the city’s project spokeswoman.

Voters in 2004 approved a $117 million citywide bond issue for 10 years of street work.

In northeast Spokane, Queen Avenue from Lacey to Regal streets will be fully excavated and rebuilt with a new gravel base. Three other street segments will have just the top layer of pavement will be removed and then a new layer put in its place. They are Wabash Avenue from Smith to Haven streets; Smith Street from Wellesley to Queen avenues and Nelson Street from Wabash to Queen avenues.

In Browne’s Addition, the construction plan calls for full depth rehabilitation of Riverside Avenue from Hemlock Street to the Marne Bridge. Riverside will be closed during the work, which will also include storm sewer repairs, new or rebuilt curb ramps and other sidewalk repairs.

Two other streets will have their top surfaces stripped way and new pavement laid in place. They are First Avenue from Maple to Poplar streets and Second Avenue from Sunset Boulevard to Coeur d’Alene Street. They will have parking and traffic restrictions during the work. Cannon Street is expected to remain open when the contractor is not working on intersections involving Cannon.

One street tree in Browne’s Addition is dead and will be removed. Another 50 street trees are being pruned to prevent damage during construction.
