Bicycle clinic today

The Spokesman-Review

COEUR D’ALENE – North Idaho BMX will sponsor a free bicycle safety clinic today and hold its annual Race for Life fundraiser Sunday. Both events will be at the Cherry Hill track on 15th Street in Coeur d’Alene.

At today’s safety clinic, kids can have their bikes checked out, learn bike-control concepts on an obstacle course, get helmets if they need them and get a free T-shirt while supplies last.

Registration will be from 9 to 10 a.m.

After some time on the track learning the basics, the kids can try a race for free. Certificates of completion will be given to each participant.

Cost is a $20 donation to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Racers are encouraged to raise funds in their own communities.

The Race for Life program started in 1981 when Todd Kingsbury, a 12-year-old racer from Michigan, learned he had leukemia. The American Bicycle Association organized an event to assist him and has continued the fundraising events since.

Top fundraisers among the racers will receive awards ranging from T-shirts and jackets to trips to the American Bicycle Association’s Grand Nationals.
