Prep Roundup: Mead defeats LC in shootout

Mead outscored Lewis and Clark 4-2 in a shootout and beat the Tigers (10-5) 2-1 Tuesday in a District 8 4A loser-out soccer playoff game at Joe Albi Stadium.

Tim Doggett scored off an assist from John Sittser in the 45th minute to put the Panthers ahead 1-0. LC’s Jake Gilles answered with a penalty kick goal in the 80th minute to knot the game at 1.

The Panthers (12-3) advance to play the Columbia Basin League’s second seed in a state play-in game Saturday.

“Fourth-seeded Riverside outscored fifth-seeded Medical Lake (9-8) 6-5 in a shootout and beat the visiting Cardinals 1-0 in a District 7 2A tournament game. Goalkeeper Jake Saxon made the final save in the shootout to give Riverside the win. The Rams (8-7) advance to play at top-seeded Cheney (17-0) at 4 p.m. Thursday. … In other tournament action, Danny Kang scored two goals, leading third-seeded Pullman to a 4-0 win over fifth-seeded West Valley (6-12) in Pullman. Kyle Kinard added a goal and two assists for the Greyhounds (13-3), who will play at second-seeded Deer Park (8-8) at 4 p.m. Thursday.

“Entiat outscored Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) 7-6 in a shootout and beat the Eagles 4-3 in a 1A regional playoff match in Entiat. Lakeside (13-3) plays again Thursday.

Baseball

Justin Walker hit a two-run home run in Cheney’s four-run first inning and the fourth-seeded Blackhawks held on to beat fifth-seeded Medical Lake (8-13) 7-5 in a District 7 2A loser-out playoff game in Cheney. The Blackhawks (12-9) advance to play top-seeded West Valley (15-5) at 4 p.m. today. … In other playoff action, Trent Line and Cary Conklin drove in four runs apiece as third-seeded Clarkston (12-9) routed sixth-seeded Colville (7-11) 21-3 in a loser-out game in Clarkston. Don Perconti added two hits and two RBIs for the Bantams, who will play at second-seeded Pullman (14-5) at 4 p.m. today.

Cory Naccarato hit a two-run double in the top of the ninth, giving Chewelah (12-10) an 8-6 upset win over previously undefeated Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) in a District 6/7 Bi-District playoff game at Avista Stadium. Justin Naccarato added a two-run double in the eighth for the Cougars. … Earlier at Avista Stadium, Tyler Proszek pitched a complete-game one-hitter while striking out six as Chewelah beat Okanogan 5-1. … Kyle Stillar went 3 for 4 with three RBIs as Lakeside (20-1) beat Cascade 11-5. … J.R. Jarrell knocked in four RBIs as Brewster beat Freeman 13-1 at Eastmont High School. Brewster advances to play Chewelah at 2 p.m. Saturday in Moses Lake to determine the top two seeds to the state tournament. … Earlier at Eastmont, Freeman scored six runs in the second and beat Omak 11-1 in five innings. … Brodie McCormick hit an RBI single in the sixth and Brewster topped Colfax 4-2.

“St. George’s scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth and beat Northwest Christian 9-6 in a District 7 2B game at St. George’s. Tim Mackin homered for the Dragons (18-3), who will play Lind-Ritzville (10-7) at 12:30 p.m. Friday. … Earlier at St. George’s, Northwest Christian beat Springdale 11-3. … Aaron Weis hit a two-run homer in the fourth and finished with four RBIs as Liberty (14-6) topped Reardan (6-10) 10-6 in Liberty. Liberty advances to play Republic at 10 a.m. Friday at Avista Stadium. … Earlier at Liberty, Reardan scored eight runs in the first and sixth innings and routed Selkirk (4-16) 21-4.

“Asotin beat visiting Tekoa-Oakesdale/Rosalia 5-3 in a District 9 2B game. The Panthers advance to play at DeSales at 1 p.m. May 19 to determine the top two seeds to the state tournament.

“Garfield-Palouse scored a run in the bottom of the eighth and beat visiting Touchet 5-4 in a District 9 1B loser-out game. The Vikings advance to play Liberty Christian at 1 p.m. Saturday at Washington State University. … Elsewhere, St. John-Endicott scored six times in the fifth and beat host Tri-Cities Prep 12-4. The Eagles will play Colton at 10 a.m. Saturday at WSU.

Softball

Colville (16-0, 14-0) swept a doubleheader from visiting West Valley (12-8, 8-6) in the final Great Northern League games of the season. Jordan Emmil and Emilee Lepp hit back-to-back homers in the top of the sixth as the Indians won the opener 11-4. In the second game, Michelle Ching allowed two hits in the complete game as the Indians won 10-0 in five innings. … Pairings are set for the District 7 2A tournament. Third-seeded Clarkston (9-11) will host sixth-seeded Cheney (6-14) while fourth-seeded West Valley will host fifth-seeded Medical Lake (8-10). Both games are loser-out contests at noon Saturday. Top-seeded Colville and second-seeded Pullman (15-4) have first-round byes.

“Freshman Kenzie Graber hit a three-run homer in the third and Davenport topped Liberty 4-0 in a Bi-County League playoff game at Liberty. Katie Brantley pitched a complete-game one-hitter while striking out 10 for the Gorillas. … Earlier at Liberty, Davenport topped Northwest Christian 6-4. … NWC beat Lind-Ritzville 13-2 in five innings. … Davenport is the top seed, Liberty is the second seed, Northwest Christian is the third seed and L-R is the fourth seed entering the district playoffs, which start next Wednesday in Medical Lake.

Sue Hodges drove in three runs as Tekoa-Oakesdale routed Waitsburg 15-5 in a District 1B playoff game. The Nighthawks advance to play at Dayton at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Boys golf

Ferris’ Dustin Poe shot a 2-under-par 70 and sits in first place after the first round of the District 8 4A tournament at Hangman Valley Golf Course. Poe is followed by teammates Ryan Jones (72) and Sean Bulger (73). Also at Hangman, Mt. Spokane’s Bobby Moore shot a 74 and leads the District 8 3A tournament after the first day. The Wildcats’ Matt Strandberg is in second place after shooting a 76. The second round is Thursday at Indian Canyon Golf Course.
