Valley verve: Some Will Fall sharing message through music
The band Some Will Fall is not about to fall any time soon.
They’re on a roll, picking up momentum and rocking the house. Their style is Christian/screamo/hard-core rock and the members are all 17 years old.
Andrew Heisel screams and sings, Daniel Forbes plays the bass, Dylan Campbell plays rhythm guitar and sings background vocals, Cody Rhodes is on drums and Kramer Veloski plays lead guitar. The band is motivated and enthusiastic.
In the next year or so, Veloski hopes to get a five-song demo done, tour the West Coast, sign a contract, expand his musical boundaries and become a better person through it.
Campbell hopes to make an impression on the world through his music, while Rhodes wants to “drum until he drops.” Forbes wants to share who he is and what he feels and Heisel wants to break a stereotype.
Watching them perform it is easy to see them simply as hard-core rockers but they are more than that – they have a message. Heisel, who writes most of the lyrics, summed it up, “Girls and God.”
“We want to reach people for Christ through the music,” Veloski added.
The group merged as a band this last August, coming together as like-minded individuals with a common desire to rock out.
They practice in Rhodes’ basement in the Newman Lake area. “I like it except for the screaming,” said Rhodes’ mother Patti, “I think they’ll succeed. They’re determined, and they’ll make it work. It’s a good sound.”
The “good sound” is shared with neighbors who occasionally pull out lawn chairs for their own private concert.
A 740-square-foot area in the Rhodes’ garage is being built into a studio and could be done by summer. It will be more sound proof and include a soundboard.
The teens are self-taught for the most part, inspired by their desires to perform. They are aware of the importance of stage presence, and they work on that as they fine-tune their songs. They have seven completed songs and are working on more. Titles include “No Shirt No Shoes,” “Deathless Dying,” and “You With the Face.”
They have performed in Newman Lake, Liberty Lake, Walla Walla, Lewiston and in a few city venues. Veloski and Heisel make calls and do much of the booking. “I even booked a show in Roswell, N.M., but we’re not going,” Heisel said. When time and circumstances allow, they will travel farther.
Their popularity can be measured by the 6,000 profile views and 4,000 plays of their songs on MySpace. Their style and sound is hard to ignore and they are scream-in-your-face loud. Heisel summed it up with a quote from the band called Hollywood Undead: “…you got a choice and you have a voice.”
