Red Sox 6, Orioles 5: At Boston, Jason Varitek and Eric Hinske scampered home when closer Chris Ray dropped the toss at first base on what could have been a game-ending groundout, and the Red Sox rallied for six runs in the ninth inning to beat Baltimore. Boston scored six runs on four hits, three walks and a hit batter against Danys Baez and Ray.
Athletics 10, Indians 7: At Oakland, Calif., Jack Cust’s fifth home run in four games capped a five-run ninth inning that helped the Athletics rally for a victory over Cleveland. Joe Borowski retired the first two batters of the ninth inning and got an 0-2 count on Eric Chavez with the Indians leading 7-5.
Twins 16, Tigers 4: At Minneapolis, Torii Hunter homered twice and drove in a career-high seven runs to help Minnesota beat Detroit. The Twins racked up season highs in runs, hits (22) and homers (four). Boof Bonser gave up six hits in five innings for Minnesota.
Devils Rays 2, Blue Jays 1: At Toronto, Shaun Marcum pitched six hitless innings for Tampa Bay, Carlos Pena got the Devil Rays’ first hit with a tiebreaking home run off Jason Frasor in the seventh inning, and Tampa Bay beat the Blue Jays.
Royals 11, White Sox 1: At Chicago, David DeJesus tied a career high with four hits, Jorge De La Rosa pitched seven sharp innings and Kansas City beat the White Sox. The Royals matched their season high for runs and hits (15) set April 20 against Minnesota. DeJesus finished 4 for 6 with two RBIs and three runs scored.
Rangers 7, Angels 6: At Arlington, Texas, Nelson Cruz hit a solo home run with one out in the ninth inning to give Texas a victory over Los Angeles. Ian Kinsler, Hank Blalock and Brad Wilkerson also homered for the Rangers. Gary Matthews Jr. homered twice and drove in four runs for the Angels.
